Our program.

Harbor High School is proud to offer a comprehensive music program for students in grades 9-12, with a AA Concert Band, Concert Choir and Jazz Band as well as Guitar and Music Production classes. Students experience a broad range of musical styles from jazz to pop to classical.  Many of our students are recognized at the local and state levels.  Students rehearse throughout the year and perform in the community and around the state at competitive competitions.

Harbor High School Music Department strives to provide a well-rounded music education to all students.   Students participate in a variety of musical experiences that will positively impact their life and provide them with a culturally aware outlook and appreciation for the arts.  Participating in a performance ensemble gives students the opportunity to grow as a group and and as an individual.  Students will create musical experiences that can never be completely replicated.  This unique experience allows students to develop critical life skills such as individual and ensemble etiquette, problem solving, and collaboration.

All music courses are taught by Dillon Baiocchi, a multi-instrumentalist performer, music producer, educator and composer. Mr. Baiocchi began his musical career as a saxophonist before branching out into multiple woodwind instruments, analog synthesizers, music production, mixing, recording and composition.

 

Mr. Baiocchi earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York, where he lived and studied for three years. During this time, he composed and performed with his band the Dillon Baiocchi Quintet and received a DownBeat Student Music Award for his composition Mountain Road. He also toured New York and Canada with the Franky Rousseau Large Band. Baiocchi studied extensively with esteemed jazz musicians Myron Walden, Vincent Herring, Lee Konitz, Reggie Workman, Dave Douglas, George Cables and Darcy James Argue. Mr. Baiocchi later moved to the Netherlands, where earned a Master of Music degree from Codarts University for the Arts in Rotterdam (NL).

 

During his five years in Rotterdam, Baiocchi was a founding member of three musical projects that performed and toured across Europe, playing at clubs and festivals in the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Belgium and the United Kingdom. He is now happy to be back in his hometown of Santa Cruz, teaching and sharing his passion for music.
